In 1972, 南景製陶園 started a family-run ceramics house based in Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture. They specialise in traditional Banko-Yaki pottery, which created their signature product: the Kyusu teapots.
It was originally founded earlier, back in 1913, when a pottery clay maker was refining white clay for the local Taisho-yaki pottery and red clay for teapots. They eventually started manufacturing pottery, in which they have been active for more than 50 years as of today.
In terms of design, simplicity and subtlety are being expressed. The clay material that is being used to create these teapots is high in iron content. This helps to enhance and mellow the flavour of the tea when it is poured in. Hence why their teapots aren’t glazed on the inside.
